Race Day Information

Please know that our event is rain or shine, so the 20th Anniversary celebration will go in, even in the rain. We will not have indoor space, but each major event area will be tented.

If we are expecting dangerous weather conditions, we will be sure to send an email & update our website by 7:30 AM on Saturday with our updated plans. Our number one priority is the safety of our participants, vendors, and volunteers!

The Resource Fair will present dozens of organizations, including autism service providers and local businesses.  The event concludes with our Awards Ceremony, where we will recognize race winners, top teams, and fundraisers. 5K FAQs:

What if the weather is bad?

The ASCV 5K & Family Fun Day is a rain or shine event, and we will host it as planned unless there are dangerous weather conditions. There is no scheduled inclement weather date. Because the ASCV depends on this important fundraiser to support our local autism community, it is not our policy to issue refunds to participants who are unable to attend or if the event has to be cancelled.

Are dogs allowed at the 5K & Family Fun Day?

Due to safety concerns on the race course, as well as fear of dogs of participants with autism, we ask that no pets other than registered service animals attend the event.

Will food and drinks be available for purchase?

Yes, we will have food trucks, including Raise Coffee and Kona Ice available for purchase. Additionally, we will provide Diamond Springs water and post-race snacks for our 5K participants. Please bring a water bottle to refill your bottle throughout the day - no glass bottles, please.

Do I need to register to attend this event?

Everyone who attends, including walkers and runners of all ages, must be registered and sign our event waiver online. You can register online ahead of time at ascv5k.org or in-person the morning of the event.

When can I pick up my participant registration bag, bib number and t-shirt?

Pre-registered 5K participants may drop off donations and pick up their participant registration bags, bibs and t-shirts on Friday, May 13 from 12 to 5:30pm at Lucky Road Run Shop in Willow Lawn.  Packet Pickup will also be available the morning of the 5K at the Registration and Information tent until 8:40am.

Is parking available?

Yes, parking will be available at Crump Park.   Parking guides will be available in the morning to direct traffic and ensure a quick parking process. VIP Parking will be available for our top fundraising teams. Accessible parking will also be available near the 5K start line and Resource Fair Area.

When should I arrive to participate in the 5K Run?

The race will begin promptly at 9:00am.  Please plan to arrive by 8:30am for the Opening Ceremonies and to leave adequate time to park and walk to the Start Line. We encourage you to arrive early in order to enjoy the pre-race festivities and explore the Resource Fair and Kids’ Fun Zone. Both open at 8:00 am and will remain open after the race.

What is the course like?

Click here to view a map of the route.  Additionally, the RVA trolley will be available for those who would like to participate, but may not be able to complete the course. The trolley will monitor the course and offer rides to the Finish Line.

May I walk the 5K?

Absolutely! Participants are also welcome to walk the course. We  just ask our walkers to line up to start after our competitive runners.

Are strollers and wheelchairs allowed in the 5K?

Yes. We ask that runners/walkers with wheelchairs and strollers start the race towards the back so that these participants can move without hindrance. Your safety is our first priority.

Are vehicles such as golf carts, bicycles, or scooters allowed on the course?

No, for safety reasons we are unable to accommodate motorized vehicles of any type.

How will the race be timed?

The Richmond Road Runners Club is providing timing services for the 2022 ASCV 5K. Chip timing, available to purchase online as an add-on during or after registration for $5, is able to precisely measure your race results by registering your race chip (attached to your race bib) as you run across timing mats located at the start/finish line of the race. If you do not choose chip-timing, you will be able to see your race time on the clock at the finish line, but that time will not be recorded or eligible for Top 5K Finisher awards.

When and where will the 5K finish times be posted?

Your results will be posted on your RunSignUp profile, and you can search on the race website by bib number.

Are awards given out to top 5K finishers?

Yes, awards will be presented after the race to our top finishers in a variety of age and gender categories. Check out the Awards Page to see what you could win.

Will water and snacks be available to 5K runners after the race?

Yes, the ASCV will provide complimentary water and healthy snacks post-race to all participants.
