FAQs

🎃 Frequently Asked Questions 🎃

Q. What is the ACRES Project and what will funds be used for?

A. The ACRES Project is a community-supported State College nonprofit by adults with autism, for adults with autism! Our innovative programs foster independence, self-advocacy, socialization, and job readiness for adults with autism, for whom few other resources exist. ACRES relies on private donations to allow us to provide our services at low or no cost to those who need them. Every cent of your entry fee and fundraising will go directly to The ACRES Project to ensure that it will continue to be there to support our community.

Q. I don't live in State College/don't feel comfortable attending an in-person event. Can I complete the 5K virtually?

A. Sure! While we encourage all who are able to meet at Sidney Friedman Park for an in-person run, we understand that this may not be possible for everyone. If you'd like to be with us in spirit, 👻 you can still register and complete your 5K wherever you are and upload photos of your costume for remote entry into our costume contest. You can also participate by starting your own virtual Halloween Hustle fundraiser or making a donation. We appreciate your support, no matter where you live!

Q: Do participants have to complete the entire 5K?

A: No. This year's "race" is a noncompetitive, just-for-fun event. We understand that some participants may have young children and that everyone has different abilities. Although we encourage you to walk, jog, run, or roll along our suggested route, you are under no obligation to complete the whole course and may go at your own pace. The point is to get outside and have fun -- and we'll have plenty of family-friendly activities at Sidney Friedman Park for runners and non-runners alike!

Q: Do I have to wear a costume?

A: No, but we encourage it! Wearing a costume puts you in the running for great prizes in our costume contest and adds to the fun atmosphere of the event. But if you don't want to wear a costume, that's OK. We want you to participate however you are comfortable!

Q: What are the plans for bad weather?

A: The 5K will be held rain or shine. If the weather is really spooky (high winds, thunderstorms, prolonged heavy rain) activities may be moved indoors. Currently, the weather for Halloween morning looks good, but please check our Facebook page for any updates or announcements.

Q: Are there rewards for finishing the 5K?

A: Registered participants who confirm completion of the 5K route may download a personalized finisher's certificate to print and display. Once you have completed your 5K, simply return to this website, log in using the same information you used when you registered, and click on the Results Tab. Then, click "submit virtual results" and search for your name or email address to find your registration. Once you have found your registration, select "Submit Virtual Results" button next to your name and enter at least 5km as your distance completed. You may also choose to submit your time for the certificate and online leaderboard, but this is not required. When you're done entering your information, click "Submit Results." Then, return to the Results page, click your name, and click "Certificate" in the upper right to download your very own certificate!

Q: How do I submit my race time?

A. Since this is a noncompetitive event, submitting race times is optional. But if you'd like to keep a record for your own personal use or see how you stack up on the leaderboards, simply follow the procedures for submitting virtual results and enter in your time when prompted.

Q: I'm having trouble with the website, registration, or have a different question.

A: Most website or registration issues can be fixed by Runsignup's helpful tutorials. If you are still having trouble or have other questions, please contact us!
