Communication, First Aid + Emergencies
COMMUNICATIONS
Use the Race Director's contact information below anytime along the course when cell service is available. If not available, you will find Exchange Volunteers with radio communication at most exchanges along the course. If you see someone in need of assistance along the course, please notify the Race Directors and/or Exchange Volunteers.
EMERGENCIES
In case of an emergency along the course, it is your responsibility to seek appropriate medical/emergency care, while also attempting to notify the Race Directors via direct communication or through a volunteer, staff, official or radio support on the course. There is a full list of local and regional medical and police contacts in the Relay Handbook. Please write any pertinent medical condition information on the back of your race bib.
FIRST AID
Teams are responsible for supplying an adequate first aid kit to treat: blisters, abrasion, headaches, heat exhaustion, and other common ailments. Most running/walking injuries are directly related to soft tissue trauma and are effectively treated with ice. We strongly recommend bringing a cooler filled with ice and replenish ice at gas stations along the route (remember R.I.C.E: Rest Ice Compression Elevation).
