  1. Can I bring my dog with me?
    Yes, as long as it is a friendly dog, and you watch that it does not interfere with any other runners/walkers, and you bring a bag to pick up any droppings it may leave. Water stations for dogs will be available along the race route.
  2. Can I bring a stroller?
    Yes
  3. How long is 5K?
    3.1 miles
  4. Do I have to run?
    No. Some people run the entire way. Some people walk the entire way, and some do a combination of both.
  5. What is the Dewey Decimal Dash and how long is it?
    It is one mile run for ages 12 and under.
  6. Does my child that is 12 years old or younger have to do the Dewey Decimal Dash?
    No. Any age can do the 5K.
  7. Can I run alongside my child in the Dewey Decimal Dash?
    Absolutely! We encourage parents to run with their children. Parents do not have to register for the Dewey Decimal Dash if they just want to run alongside their child, who is registered.
  8. Who gets medals?
    All Dewey Decimal Dash Finishers receive a finishing ribbon. For the 5K: Male & Female Masters (age 40 and over), Male & Female Overall, Top three Male & Female finishers per age group. Age categories are: 9 and under, 10-12, 13-16, 17-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, …60-64, 65 and over
  9. What time is the medal ceremony?
    10:00 am
  10. What is the route?
    Racecourse map will be available at the library circulation desk, library, and race website.
  11. How does the timing work?
    Dewey Decimal Dash is not timed. 5K is chip timed by Race Timing Services. The chip is a magnetic strip on the back of each race bib, that automatically times when you cross the start and finish lines.
  12. How does packet pickup work?
    All pre-registered race participants can pick up their packet at the library on Friday, May 10 between 1-7 pm or starting at 7 am on race day, May 11.
  13. Can I register on the day of the race?
    Yes. Starting at 7 am, race day registration is available at the library.
  14. What time do I have to arrive at the event on Saturday? 
    We ask that all participants arrive by 8:15 at the latest, even if you have already picked up your packet the day before. We have a DJ playing fun and festive music starting at 7:00 am, so it’s a fun environment, and it also helps if there are a lot of people on hand to cheer on the Dewey Decimal Dashers. It’s really a joy to watch them.
  15. Road Closures?
    The Dewey Decimal Dash starts at 8:30 am, and our local police and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) start blocking off part of South Street at 8:30 am. We have traffic workers in front of the library that will allow traffic in and out as is safe.
