Race History
Over time, we have modified the race course from year to year for safety concerns, efficiency, construction, etc. Here's some history of the changes:
- inaugural race, started by a small group of friends who wanted to do a triathlon. Timing was with stop watches and T1 and T2 were literally miles apart.
-ish - 2016 - Swim was 900 yards (18 lengths). Bike was 2 loops of an 8 mile course (16 miles total) that went out 174 to Lutzton to 74 to Creek Road to Leidigh. Run was an out and back on Ridge Road, starting with a run up Bucher Hill!
- same swim and run, but we changed the Bike to 3 loops of a 5 mile course (~15 miles), turning right from Lutztown onto Leidigh and removing the section on 174 and Creek Road.
- same swim and bike, but we changed the run to remove Bucher Hill and take advantage of the new Stamy-Dickenson trail on the south side of town. The distance was very slightly longer (3 miles vs. 2.9), but much less hilly!
- we rounded out our course changes by shortening the swim to 12 lengths (~600 yards) to ensure people didn't have to wait around at the finish as long as before.
- Stupid Covid...
- same as 2019
- a one-time change to the bike course due to construction on Bucher Hill (swim and run were the same). The 14 mile bike course went out Mountain Road, along Red Tank, Park Place, Zion, and then East on 174 to join with the normal route on Lutztown to Leidigh west of town.
-present - the course has remained the same as 2019 & 2021 - officially 12 lengths in the pool (~600 yds), 3 loops of an 5 mile bike course (~15 miles), and an out and back ~3 mile run, mostly on the crushed gravel Stamy-Dickenson trail.
