Race insurance, if purchased, is handled directly through the insurance provider.
As with most large-scale endurance events, we incur substantial upfront costs months in advance of race day — including permits, police and city services, venue rental, medals, shirts (often custom-ordered to size), bibs, timing services, insurance, equipment rentals, and staffing. These expenses are committed based on projected participation and cannot be recovered if an individual participant cancels.
Additionally, event capacity limits, safety planning, and logistical coordination make it impossible to resell or reallocate many registrations once secured. For your protection, we strongly recommend purchasing optional Race Insurance during registration, which provides coverage for many common unforeseen circumstances such as illness, injury, travel disruptions, and other qualifying events.
