Race Day
Parking and shuttle information will be provided in the official race-weekend guide. In previous years, participant parking and race shuttles have been available from designated locations in Breckenridge.
The Marathon starts high on Boreas Pass Road, so participants should plan to use the designated race transportation. Specific shuttle locations and departure times will be announced in the race-weekend information.
We recommend arriving early enough to park, pick up your packet if necessary, use the restrooms, warm up, and get to your starting area without rushing. Marathon and Half Marathon participants should allow additional time for transportation to their respective start areas.
Yes, walkers are welcome. However, all participants must be able to complete the course within the established course time limits and follow any instructions from race officials.
Yes! Gear check will be available on race day for participants who would like to store personal belongings while they run. Additional details about gear-drop location, hours, and pickup procedures will be provided in the race-weekend information.
Course & Elevation
The Breckenridge Marathon is a challenging mountain race with a high-altitude start. The course begins at approximately 10,434 feet on Boreas Pass Road and travels through alpine scenery before finishing in Breckenridge.
Breckenridge sits at a significantly higher elevation than many runners are accustomed to. If you're traveling from lower elevation, give yourself time to acclimate, stay hydrated, and listen to your body. Pace by effort rather than expecting your normal sea-level pace.
The Half Marathon is a challenging mountain course. Although it begins with a significant downhill, it is a net uphill course, making it an excellent challenge for runners looking for a scenic and demanding half marathon.
To ensure all participants have a safe and supported race experience, the following course time limits apply:
- Marathon: 7 hours
- Half Marathon: 7 hours
- 10K: 2.5 hours
- 5K: 2.5 hours
Participants must complete their respective courses within the applicable cutoff time.
Yes! Aid stations will be available throughout the courses to help keep runners fueled and hydrated. Aid station locations will be clearly marked on the official course maps so you can plan ahead and know where support will be available along your route.
Strollers are welcome on the course. For the safety of everyone, we ask that participants with strollers start toward the back of their assigned race and use extra caution around other runners, especially in crowded areas.
Only service animals are permitted on the race course. Dogs and other pets are welcome in the post-race area, but they are not allowed on the course.
Not yet! The Breckenridge Road Marathon course is not currently USATF certified and is not a Boston Qualifier.
We’re hoping to make this a change in the coming years as we continue to grow and improve the event. Our goal is to eventually offer runners the opportunity to use their Breckenridge Marathon time as a qualifying time for the Boston Marathon.
In the meantime, come enjoy the challenge, scenery, and unique experience of running a marathon in Breckenridge!
