What is the Fire Hydrant 5K?
The Fire Hydrant 5K is a tail-wagging good time where dogs aren’t just allowed—they’re the stars!
Join us for a professionally timed 5K or the 1-Mile Dash, just for kids. This scenic course is fully paved and loops around thelakes of Huntington Central Park.
5K runners score a race tee, finisher medal, and dog bandana. Plus, all runners are automatically entered into our prize raffle drawing. Kids who finish the 1-Mile Dash will earn a medal of their own.
After the run, sniff around our Dog Expo featuring pet vendors, adoptable dogs, contests, and exciting canine entertainment. Bring the whole pack—it’s fun for every human and hound.
Money raised from the Fire Hydrant 5K will fund programs of Ward House Charities (WHC). Ward House Charities supports students by addressing unmet needs and increasing access to educational programs, school-sponsored activities, and extracurricular opportunities.

More About Ward House Charities
Our Most Utilized Program is Project Prom
Project Prom is about more than dresses and suits—it’s about dignity, confidence, and ensuring every student feels seen, celebrated, and included.
For many high school students, prom is a once-in-a-lifetime milestone. But for families facing financial challenges, the cost of formal attire and preparation can put this special moment out of reach. That’s where Project Prom steps in.
Through the generosity of our community, we provide students with everything they need to walk into their big night with confidence—beautiful dresses, sharp suits, shoes, and accessories, along with support for hair, makeup, and nail services. Every detail matters, because every student deserves to feel their absolute best.
Our support doesn’t stop at prom. We’re here for other meaningful milestones too, including homecoming, school formals, and graduation—moments that should be filled with pride, not stress.
