The 5th annual 2.2 for 22 will be hosted virtually for the second year in a row. The 2022 2.2 For 22 challenge will commence on October 1, 2022 and end on October 22, 2022. The decision to keep the event virtual was to ensure the safety of our participants, staff, volunteers, and community supporters in these unprecedented times.

The 2.2 For 22 strives to raise awareness around an unsettling reality, 22 veterans are lost to suicide every day. While the event has focused its awareness on engaging the Las Positas College community and immediate local community, last year's event proved that our message resonated far beyond our local area. Participation from last year's event included folks from around the United States and service members stationed as far away as Afghanistan. Sponsors for the event included national brands like Carl's Jr, Jamba Juice, and the Safeway Foundation.

The 2.2 For 22 officially kicks off on October 1, 2022, however participants may register and donate to the event now! *Upon registering for the event, participants will receive a 2.2 For 22 t-shirt and commemorative medal. Event organizers encourage participants to complete all challenges or attempt as many as they can. Participants may join and/or create teams to enjoy the event as a group. Both an individual and team results board will showcase progress and completion of challenges to anyone who views the website, in the spirit of friendly competition. We heavily encourage participants to post pictures of themselves taking on the challenges and posting pictures with our hashtag #CHALLENGE22FORVETS (see below for last year's pictures).

The format of the event will be similar to last year's 2.2 For 22 and will include 22 new challenges for participants to engage in. This year's challenges will challenge participant's physical, social, and emotional capabilities. Last year's challenges are posted below for folks to get an idea of what is to come in 2022.

Event T-Shirt, Medal, and Drawstring bag will be mailed to the address on file or available for pick up at Las Positas College on October 22, 2022.

DREAM TEAM PRIZE!  Team that completes all the virtual challenges with the highest scores will receive one gift certificate for an overnight stay in a Family Suite with Four Water Park Passes at the Great Wolf Lodge in Manteca. It is valued at $400.  Team could give it to the "most valuable player."  Encourage posting photos of your team completing the challenges.  Winner announced on October 22, 2022 at Las Positas College.

Where your support goes

It is important to the Veterans Fist Program to be transparent with its all its sponsors and supporters. The funds from the 2.2 for 22 events go to support our student veteran population in a variety of ways. Funds from past events have gone to support student veterans and the campus community in these ways.

  • Funded 10 2.2 for 22 student Veterans scholarships, awarding over $8,000 to LPC student Veterans
  • Bringing experts to our campus, for the purpose of engaging Las Positas College classified professionals, faculty, and administration on best practices for serving student Veterans / mental health training during fall and spring flex day. Training was provided by Dr. Miatta Snetter, Director, Outside of the Wire Support student Veterans events which promote camaraderie (BBQ's, team building events, movie nights, etc.)
  • Reserves to purchase shirts, medals, and marketing for annual 2.2 for 22 Vets Challenge
  • Offset costs to send student Veterans organization leadership to Student Veterans of America National Conference
  • Support workshops focusing on mental health for student Veterans

Q: What if I am unable to do a certain challenge, how do I move forward?

A: Participants who are unable to complete a certain challenge are encouraged to do the challenge in any manner that is adaptive to their ability. For example, if you cannot complete 22 military push ups, you can do modified push ups against a wall or wheelchair push ups. Adapting a challenge can be as creative as you would like. For instance, folks who do not have a bicycle can ride a stationary bike or substitute a cycle completely by going for a walk, skateboarding, roller blading, etc.

Q: Can I make a donation without registering for the event?

A: Absolutely! Donations can be made without being a registered participant. Navigate to our donations page via the menu bar on the left side of the homepage. From there you can make donations of any amount.

Q: Do I have to do the challenges in order? Must I complete all the challenges?

A: No, you do not have to do the challenges in order. The dates next to each challenge are only there as a guide. Feel free to pick and choose when you do each challenge. You can do multiple in one day if you would like! You do not have to do each challenge, but as this is a challenge event, we encourage participants to challenge themselves in completing each one.

Q: Can I complete the same challenge over 22 days?

A: In short, yes. While we encourage participants to attempt all the challenges (physical and non physical) we understand individuals preference to do what is comfortable and safe. For example, if you would like to do a 2.2 walk for all 22 days of the event that is totally acceptable. You can log results for the same activity multiple times. This is an honor system challenge. You do not need to submit proof that you actually completed a challenge or provide evidence of a certain time or reps/task completed count. Participants are encouraged to navigate this challenge in a manner that is comfortable and safe.

Q: How do I join an existing team if I have already registered?

A: Sign in, click on my profile, manage registration, click “Teams” on the left sidebar, select join existing team, scroll down to the team you want to join then click on update team.

Q: Can I complete more than one challenge per day?

A: You are welcome to complete as many challenges in a day as you like. There is a general pace of 1 challenge per day, but participants are encouraged to go at whatever pace is comfortable for themselves.

Q: If the challenge already started, can I still join?

A: *Yes, even if you join late you can still participate and help bring awareness to the unsettling reality that 22 veterans are lost to suicide every day.

Q: How will I receive my T-shirt and medal?

A: There will be two options for receiving your T-shirt and medal. First, participants will be invited to pick up on SATURDAY, OCTOBER 22, 2022  from 10 am-12 pm at the Las Positas College Track - free parking in Lot H or Lot P.   Second, participants who are unable to come to the pickup location will be mailed their T-shirt and medal to the address they have provided during registration during the week of October 24, 2022.

Q: How do I submit my results?

A: In the "RESULTS" tab click on "SUBMIT VIRTUAL RESULTS" then enter your first and last name. Next, click on “LOG ACTIVITIES” after, click on the "ACTIVITY" drop down menu to select a challenge. If the challenge is a timed challenge (e.g. 2.2 walk/run) please enter your time. If the challenge asks you to complete a certain number of repetitions/tasks (e.g. 22 push ups) please enter the number completed in the box labeled "REPS/TASKS COMPLETED." Use the comment box to tell us about how you felt during the challenge, write any encouraging words, shoutout your friends, and anything else that you want to communicate about the challenge.
