Penn Valley Daffodil 5K Walk
Daffodil Fun-Running or Walking
The Daffodil race has been a staple for the Nevada County community for many, many years. Offering a 5K and a 10K, the routes travel through the quaint little town of Penn Valley and across the green rolling hills on country roads. The 5K travels along the edge of Western Gateway Park, past the dog park, and finally to the park and ride for a quick turnaround for a return to the finish - which will be different this year. The 10K begins the same as the 5K, but will take a detour through the park before heading to the park and ride. During the return, the 10K turns right and weaves through the rural countryside of Penn Valley before racing back to the finish. New start and finish area, stay tuned.
Penn Valley is known for its daffodils and green grass, and if the timing is right, runners will get to see both. April lends towards cooler temps, so runners can experience energy from the spring time air and community. How could anyone say no?
The Penn Valley Lions will be the course marshals on the road. Sierra TrailBlazers are organizing and handling entries, bibs, t-shirts, and awards for the day. A wonderful community project to help all of you get out to have a wonderful spring running experience.
ENTRIES CLOSE APRIL 3, Friday, AT 12 P.M. IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE GET YOUR ENTRIES DONE TODAY!
PLEASE NOTE, ALL RACE DISTANCES MUST ADD A SHIRT TO THEIR ENTRY IF THEY DESIRE A RACE TECH SHIRT.
New medal and shirt design for 2027! Entries are limited. Prices for the 5K & 10K races will increase after March 21. The last day to secure an orginal Daffodil tech racing shirt for only $11 is March 15. Entries close April 3 at noon.
If you are in town on April 4th, and want to enjoy a beautiful, community spring morning, Penn Valley will be the best place to be. Please know, all money raised will be used for the race and to sponsor a scholarship for a graduating senior from Nevada Joint Union District High School who plans on pursuing running after high school.
Unfortunately, there will be no dogs allowed on the course, due to insurance requirements, but they are certainly welcome at the start and finish to be there to cheer you on. We love dogs!
Medal Reveal! All participants will recieve a unique and beautiful wooden medal when they finish their distance!
Race Bib Pick-Up will be on April 03, 2027, in two locations. We encourage you to pick up on Saturday to make the morning smoother and less stressful for all. And we want to meet you!

Morning of the Race
The Check-in table will be ready at 6:30 am, at the start.
The Race starts at 8 am, with the 10K starting first, the 5K run starting second, and the 5K walk starting third, on the bike lane. The 10K and 5K run will start TBA, with 2 lanes of the road open, then will narrow down to only one to allow cars a slow access for exit. There will be lots of signs. The 10K will do a loop around the park as well as Horton Lane, Lasso Loop, and then back to the finish.
The start will (in process) be at the Western Gateway Park. There are bathrooms at the park. There is parking too.
There will be coffee and donut holes to fuel you race and get you rolling to the start line.
We are so excited to host your morning of moving! The medals look spectacular, the stickers are very cool, and the shirts are amazing.
YES, we know, the weather can be wet. We are believing in the sun for 2027. Regardless we have numerous eze-ups to help keep you dry while you wait, and a covered picnic area, but please pack a rain jacket with a warm layer underneath to keep you cozy (just in case) while you wait. Once you start running, what you wear is up to you! We will have plastic drop bags for you to stash your extra layers for you to grab when you finish, just make sure you mark your bag clearly with the provided markers.
