Description
An annual virtual event with run and ruck divisions, serving as a jumping-off point for Crucible training (what better way to test your current fitness before your training cycle starts?) and support a local Mexican Wolf Conservation Non-Profit, the California Wolf Center.
"California Wolf Center is dedicated to the return of wild wolves to their natural habitat and to the people who share the landscape with them.
Through captive breeding, wild release, and public education, we work to ensure that wolves, livestock, and people can peacefully thrive in today's world.
The California Wolf Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and thanks to our incredible volunteers who help keep our costs down, over 90% of every dollar you donate goes directly toward supporting our mission."
If you're in the San Diego area, you can schedule an educational tour of their facility to learn more about Mexican Gray Wolves and their natural habitat (spoiler - Southern California and Mexico): https://www.californiawolfcenter.org/wolf-tours
There are 5k, half marathon, and full marathon distance options for each division. You can literally walk these - there WILL be prizes for top times in each division, prizes for donations and fundraising champs, and if we can collectively raise and donate $5,000, we can NAME A WOLF. And then that will be its name for forever. This is a huge deal.
Run is unweighted, with the same GAP factor used in The Crucible to account for elevation change. Runs can be manually uploaded to Strava from a GPS watch, or Strava can be used via phone GPS to collect run distance and time. Final submission must be a run, walk, or ruck uploaded to Strava (.gpx files can be uploaded to runsignup as well). The link to your PUBLIC Strava entry can be placed in your submission (full instructions to be sent out closer to race date).
Ruck is 35lbs for women/55lbs for men. Same GAP factor used. You do NOT need a rucksack, only a pack with the RX weight - just enclose a video of yourself weighing your pack on any scale (bodyweight scale easiest), clearly showing the weight of the pack, and putting it on before your ruck. This'll be mostly honor system, so do what you can to make sure it's clear that you're wearing the same pack on your ruck!
