Description

The Great Navy Campout is back at Naval Base Point Loma! Join Community Recreation on a 2-night camping adventure on Catalina Island. 

Campers can expect lots of hiking, campfire cooking, beautiful views, up close wildlife and memories with the whole family.

MWR transportation will pick-up all registered participants on Friday, 4 August to drive to Dana Point to go abroad the 2:45pm Catalina Express. Pick-up for the trip will be at Naval Base Point Loma Harbor Drive, building 606.

Trip is suitable for participants aged 8 and up. All participants must be able to swim, be comfortable with hiking and be able to lift and carry their camping equipment. 

Price includes ferry transportation, camping equipment, camp sites, food at the camp, one dinner out in Avalon and a snorkeling class!

Draft Itinerary

FRIDAY

1200- Leave NBPL for Catalina Express Ferry

1600- Arrive and check-in for Cataline Express Ferry

1700- Arrive in Avalon, take bus to campsite

1730- Check into campsite and locate grounds

1800- Pitch tents and unwind

1900- MWR campsite meal for dinner

SATURDAY

0630- Sunrise hike to Hermit Gulch Overlook, pack breakfast and water for trip

1100- Head into Avalon

1200-1400 Group A snorkel lesson

1400-1600 Group B snorkel lesson

Check out downtown Avalon in between lessons

Free time downtown for dinner!

SUNDAY

Pack up camping equipment, take bus pack to ferry pickup

1100- Arrive at Catalina Express for ferry back to Dana Point

1500- MWR transportation back to NBPL

 

 

Gear Provided

Tents and regular sleeping bags will be provided with each reservation. 

If would like more equipment, please visit Community Recreation Gear Rental, at building 546, to rent out more gear. Please note, anything you plan to bring on the trip you will need to physically carry it to the campsite, and it must be allowed on the ferry.
