Junior Lifeguard

Friday, July 7, 11 AM, $10 (Prerequisite Skills Test)

Saturday, July 15- Sunday, July 16, 8 AM- 5PM, $175 (Course)

Prerequisite skills test: 

• Swim 300 yards continuously
• Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs
• Complete a timed evolution within 1:40
  • 20 yards freestyle swim
  • 7 to 10 feet surface dive to a to retrieve a 10lbs and return to the surface
  • 20 yards backstroke to the starting point
  • Exit water without steps or a ladders

Students who pass this prerequisite skills test will be offered the opportunity to participate in the full lifeguarding course. The lifeguarding course will include a pocket mask and all necessary supplies. the lifeguarding course will be a blended learning course. This will require students to do an online portion as well as an in person portion. Students who pass the lifeguarding course will receive an American Red Cross lifeguarding certificate. All students who pass the course are eligible to apply for employment with Naval Base San Diego MWR Aquatics. Must be between the ages of 15 and 18.  Link to purchase the full course will be provided to those who pass the prerequisite skills test.
