Description

Mark your calendars to celebrate the National LGBTQ+ Health Week at the 2024 Taking Stride with Pride: A 5K + Health and Wellness Fair. 

Health and fitness meets community wellness and Pride! A 5K, where you can walk, jog, run or sashay your way to the finish line. This family friendly event will also have a FREE kids' dash for ages 12 and under who wants to participate.  All participants can decorate their own bib at our Kids' Dash table and will get a participation prize. Please visit the Kids' Dash table before 7:25 am for sign up. The Kids' Dash will start promptly at 7:30 am. 

The health and wellness fair is a FREE event with different workshops, resources, and entertainment. This event is a celebration of our LGBTQ+ community and allies. Let's take strides with pride towards a healthier, happier you!

 

General Information

WHO: All are invited! Runners, walkers, skippers and prancers. (All participants who register by 03/01/24 will receive a free participant t-shirt and finishers medal upon completion of the race. All virtual runners will receive their swag via USPS. Participants who register AFTER 03/01/24 will receive a t-shirt based upon limited availability. )

FAQ

Registration

  • What’s included with the registration fee?

With your Pride 5K registration, you will receive race entry, a PRIDE-themed short-sleeve tech shirt, and chipped-race bib. 

  • Can I change information I initially filled out during registration?

Yes! You can change your registration information by clicking the “Manage Your Registration” link included in your confirmation email. If you have technical difficulties, please reach out to info@svpride.com

  • Where do I register on race day?

There will be on-site registration, but it is highly recommend you register from home or via your smartphone on in advance . Registering in advance will be cost-savings. After you register online, come to bib pickup to retrieve your shirt and bib.


 

  • May I run the race without registering?

No. You must be registered and have a race bib to participate in the event.


  • If my kids register for the 5K race, can they still run in the kids dash?

Families are welcome to join. Kids 14 and under can participate in the 100-yd kids dash at 7:30a. Kids 15 and older should register for the 5K. 


Race Materials

  • How and when will I get my race materials?

Packet Pickup will be held at Billy DeFranker LGBTQ+ Community Center, 938 The Alameda, San Jose, CA 95126 on the following days: 


Thursday, March 21st, 2024 from 6:30p-8:00p

Friday, March 22nd, 2024 from 6:30p-8:00p

If you are running the virtual event and chose to have your packet shipped directly to you, your packet will be mailed out a week before the event. Otherwise, materials can be picked up the morning of beginning at 7:30a


  • Can I pick up my friend’s packet?

Yes! You’ll need either their first and last name or their bib number in order to do so.


  • Can I exchange my shirt for a different size?

Yes, if your desired shirt size is not sold out. Please note that only unworn race shirts may be exchanged. We will try our best to accomadate.


Race Day

  • Can I walk the 5K?

Registrants are invited to participate in our events in a safe manner. Most participants can walk the 5K distance in the allotted time. 


  • Where do I park? 

We encourage all participants to use ride-share or public transportation. Participants may park at Hellyer County Park and the cost is $6 per vehicle. 


  • What do I wear? 

All PRIDE outfits (whatever you define as Pride) are encouraged, but anything comfortable for the 5K is allowed. This is a family-friendly event so we ask that all participants be mindful. 

 

Health and Safety

  • What safety measures will be in place?

We will follow the California Department of Public Health guidelines for large outdoor events.


  • Are Pride 5K participants required to wear masks?

If you are not fully vaccinated, we recommend that you wear a mask or face covering for the safety of yourself and others.


  • Are dogs allowed?

No. Only certified service animals with proper certification and harnesses are allowed.

  • Are baby strollers allowed in the race?

Yes, but for safety reasons, please stay to the right side of the street while out on the course so faster runners can safely pass.

  • Are bikes, hoverboards, scooters, skateboards, push bikes, unicycles, wagons allowed on the course?

No. For the safety of all participants, only baby strollers/joggers and wheelchairs are allowed on the course.

  • Where and when will the race results be posted?

After the race, a link to the results will be posted on our website.

  • How do I volunteer?

Sign up to volunteer here.


  • Where is Volunteer Check-In?

Registration and volunteer check-in will be at Hellyer County Park. Please look for the “Volunteer Check In” Booth


  • How do I get my volunteer slip signed for school?

Report to volunteer check-in after your shift to have your hours signed off.


Virtual Race

  • How do I run the virtual race?

You can complete your virtual 5K run/walk anytime, anywhere on March 23rd. Run outside, on a treadmill, with family, or on your own. You can submit your results and time via the RunSignUp profile.
