We have undertaken a complete revamp of the Go Green St. Patrick's Day Runs for 2020. First, we have moved the venue to San Lorenzo Park in Santa Cruz. This is a beautiful park and the start/finish of the Santa Cruz Riverwalk Levee Trail. There will be a 10K, 5K and a 1k for Kids. We will not be doing a half marathon distance as we can't find a venue in the community that will safely support that distance. We will also keep the virtual 5K and 10K races for those who can't attend that day.
5K Runners will do one loop of the Riverwalk Trail and 10K Runners will do two loops of the trail - passing close to the finish line on their way to the second loop (great opportunities to work on those negative splits!). The Kid's 1K will take place entirely in the park, with a circuit around the lakes at Duck Island. You can see all of the maps for the event under the map tab above.
VIRTUAL 5K and 10K Distances. We know that sometimes you're busy or out of town but would still like to participate. Matbe you have a friend or family members who doesn't live close to you and you'd like to share the experience. We've added a virtual 5K and 10K to Go Green this year so that you can do your run anywhere on St. Patrick's Day and share the experience. Registrants for the Virtual Race need to register by Feb 28 and will receive your bib number in the mail approximately one week before the event. Once you have completed the event and submitted your results to a special results page you will be able to print a finisher certificate and we will send you your finisher medal and shirt. There is a limit of 50 participants in each virtual distance. While you will have several days to post your results we'd really like it if you'd actually do the run on St. Partrick's Day to stay in the spirit of the event - but you can do it whenever if you need to! Don't forget to post photos to our Facebook Page too!
Start time for the 10K is at 9:00 am on Sunday morning so you can sleep in a bit, unless you have kids for the 1K because they are starting at 8:30! The 5K will start at 9:10am. We'll make a weekend of celebrating the green. In order to provide an amazing experience for all runners, our registration will be capped at 600 participants this year due to the location change and we expect another sell out - so register soon. We will again be offering a great tech tee and finishers medals for all distances.
1K start at 8:30 am
10K start 9:00 am
5K start at 9:10 am
So get your green on and join us for the only St. Patrick's Day run in Santa Cruz!
We will be designating Rotary International's Polio Plus effort as our official beneficiary for this event.
Packet Pickup locations are still TBD but we will plan on one the day before and race morning. There is also an option to have your bib mailed to you so you can avoid those lines on race morning. You can pick up your shirt after you run if you want (or get it in the morning and wear it!).
Virtual Race Participants:
If you registered for the Virtual Race we will mail your Bib numbers to the location listed on your registration between March 1 and March 5.
San Lorenzo Park and the Santa Cruz Riverwalk are located along the river in Santa Cruz , two blocks from Pacific Avenue - flowing to the ocean at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. The trail travels down both sides of the river and provides a view to the environmentally important watershed in the area. Spring is a beautiful time to visit with the trees in bloom and the river full from winter rains. The trail is paved for the entire distance of the run and you'll get to cross the river at least twice during your run.
The race will start and finish down at the big meadow in the park, called the Benchlands, located below the trail level and duck ponds on the east side of the river.
Free parking is readily available at the Santa Cruz County Government Center located on Ocean Street on weekends. The only restriction is that you may not park in any of the spots reserved for county vehicles or employees.
There is also ample street and neighborhood parking and a low cost pay parking lot across the street from the park off River Street on the west side of river. It's a short walk across the bridge to the start line. There is an excellent link to parking in Santa Cruz at this website. Lot 10 has ample parking right across from San Lorenzo Park.
Do not park in the Trader Joe's/CVS lot! They will tow you if you aren't shopping in the stores.
We'll update parking as we get closer to the race.
Dressing up for the race is entirely optional but it sure is a lot of fun! It's great to see how creative runners can be.
