Royal Gorge and the Truckee Donner Land Trust – Royal Gorge opened in the 1970’s and is America’s largest Nordic Ski Resort. In 2012 the property went into foreclosure and the nearly 6,000 acres was purchased by the Truckee Donner Land Trust so that it will be forever protected. This purchase is considered one of the most important conservation victories for the Sierra region in a generation. The Land Trust’s goal is to make the property as popular in summer as it is in the winter with trails for mountain bikers, hikers, and equestrians."
