A MESSAGE FROM OUR FOUNDER
In this time of uncertainty, we remain committed to our mission, to help families battling childhood cancer. Cancer hasn't stopped, and we must not either. Each year in the US, an estimated 700 kids under the age of 19 are diagnosed with cancer daily. It is the leading cause of death by disease in children under 19. Parents of pediatric patients face significant income loss with a pediatric cancer diagnosis. 56% of parents experience some type of work disruption, with 15% of them either quitting their job or being laid off as a result of their child's illness. Over the past 16 years, together, we have helped thousands of kids with cancer through this event so a parent can take time off work to care for their sick child. We help with transportation, lodging, and living expenses so families can focus on getting their child well again.
I am writing to share that our largest fundraiser, The Megan Savage Memorial Race for a Cure, will go ON with 100% VIRTUAL participation. Families need us now, more than ever, and with your support, we can continue to help those most in need. In lieu of our normal live event at McCarthy Park, we ask your support to participate virtually. Walk or run our traditional 5K course at McCarthy Park or from a different location of your choosing — your backyard, neighborhood, treadmill, etc. You can even choose a different fitness activity, like yoga, biking, or swimming! Pick a time that works for you between September 26 - October 3, and remember to maintain physical distance and wear a mask if walking in a group.
Our top priority is the health and safety of our participants, volunteers, and the families we serve. So let's all come together virtually while keeping everyone safe.
All registered participants will receive a limited-edition event t-shirt, a custom bib to share who they walk for and where, and our MVW Tool Kit to help share on social media. VIP participants receive the MVW bundle listed above plus a MW's facemask, and $20 of each VIP registration buys a gas card to help a family get their child to treatment.
Together we can reach our fundraising goal of $100,000 to support families of kids with cancer through our Patient Aid, Gas Assistance, and Adopt a Family Programs. Our goal is to double our previous year's participation by registering over 3,000 participants virtually since people can walk and support from anywhere in the world! It would warm my heart to see participation from multiple states and countries. Help us by sharing/liking our posts on Facebook, and inviting friends and family to walk with you virtually. Together, we can Walk for Kids like Megan, while staying apart to keep everyone safe.
With love and thanks,
Co-Founder & Chief Visionary Officer

Megan's Virtual Walk is going 100% virtual for 2020 and you can participate from anywhere this year! If you wish to do our traditional McCarthy Park 5K, we will have the start and finish line clearly marked, and you can submit your time by clicking on the manage registration link in your confirmation email. Since it's virutal, no medals will be given this year. You will have the week of Sept 26 - Oct 3 to complete your walk. Stay safe, wear a mask and distance 6' from others who may be doing the McCarthy Park 5K at the same time.
It is our goal to register 3000 registrants doubling our highest race ever since people can Walk from Anywhere this year. We need your help to accomplish our goal! Invite friends and family to join you and earn a $30 refund after the 5th person registers from your personal referral code (located in your confirmation email). In your invitation, encourage those friends & family to invite another 1-5 friends. Let's come together while staying apart, to help kids with cancer!
