About
The University of Denver's 9th Annual Crimson Classic 5K Run/1.5 Mile Walk will take place on Thursday, October 7, 2021 on Carnegie Green Lawn at 3pm. Music, stretching, and snacks will start at 2:15pm. The focus of the Crimson Classic is to celebrate wellness and to bring together our community. This is a free event! Please join us for a selection of wellness classes in the morning both virtually and on Carnegie Green Lawn prior to the race. Please scroll down for the day's schedule. All participants who register will receive a 9th Annual Crimson Classic t-shirt. Let's kick off Homecoming weekend together. 

Routes & Time
Please see the Course Route Map. The afternoons in Denver can reach warm temperatures, please be sure to hydrate prior, during, and after the event. Water stations will be located at the Start/Finish line and along the course. Course Distance: 5K (3.1 Miles) = Two (2) laps around the course. The 1.5 Mile Walk = one (1) lap around the course.

10:00am – 11:00am       TIAA Financial Wellness Webinar: Foundations of Investing via Zoom, Virtual 

Please join DU’s TIAA Financial Consultant to ground your financial wellness and awareness. All are welcome, whether you are just beginning your journey to financial awareness or maintain a more experienced financial background. After the presentation, a portion of the hour will be devoted to answering your specific questions from IRAs to 403bs and more. 11:00am - 11:45am        Self Defense Pepper Spray Training with Campus Safety, Carnegie Green Lawn

Participants will learn about the legal aspects and medical considerations for carrying and using pepper spray for personal safety. Use of pepper spray will be demonstrated, and practical skill exercises will be conducted using inert pepper spray canisters. Please note this event requires a minimum registration. If enrollment is not met, cancellation will occur within 24 hours of the course date. Participants will receive a canister of pepper spray. 11:30am – 12:00pm       Virtual Guided Meditation with Kara Traikoff via Zoom

20 minute guided mindfulness meditation practice, followed by 10 minutes of questions and open conversation. Kara Traikoff has been a part of the DU community for over 10 years. She is an experienced facilitator with a background in higher education, experiential learning, and mindfulness. Kara is a mindfulness instructor and coach trained through the Center for Mindfulness at UMASS Medical School and the Mindfulness Center at Brown University. She teaches from the heart of her dedicated personal practice and is passionate about encouraging others to experience and live the fullest life possible. 1:00pm - 1:45pm            Tai Chi with Jean Gan with Knoebel Institute of Healthy Aging on Carnegie Green

The instructor is Jean Gan, who teaches in communities throughout Metro Denver. Jean is a physical therapist who has taught Tai Chi for the past 10 years. Participants will find a warm and welcoming atmosphere and a class that can adapt to everyone’s physical abilities. Tai Chi principles and Qi flow are emphasized.

Regional Employees
Regional employees and eligible spouses are encouraged to participate in the Crimson Classic 5K Run and Walk by engaging in any physical activity of their choice on that day, and in doing so - you may receive this year’s commemorative Crimson Classic T-shirt, please email well@du.edu with your size (Small – XXXL in unisex sizes) and your mailing address.

 

Bag Check
There will be a bag check for your items at the race. Please note, DU is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Please do not leave valuables.

 

Registration and Result Posting Instructions
Register for the race by clicking "Sign Up". It is free for all participants. During registration, you will be asked to sign a waiver. If you are joining the race day-off there will be paper waivers for you to sign at the registration table. Race Results will be posted on Carnegie Green Lawn following the race.

 

Event Exclusions
Please be aware of your surroundings while racing. Strollers are allowed, but please ensure to start in the back after all other runners and walkers. Pets are not allowed on course. Service animals are allowed. Participants under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
