**WAIT LIST**
The Sawmill Trail Runs has a capacity limit of 200 Runners. For the first time ever, the event sold out prior to November 1st. At that time we implemented a wait list. When this occurred, we also reached out to our partners at Staunton State Park to request an increase of 50 runners bringing our capacity limit to 250. This request was approved.
We then removed the previous wait list and re-opened registration for 275 runners. We oversold the event, over 250 to 275, as we anticipate our usual 15-20% no-show rate on race day. Once we reached 275 registrants, the wait list was turned back on. With every intention of keeping the wait list on through December 3rd... on November 27th we turned the ability to join the wait list OFF as the wait list has more participants than we imagine we would ever cycle through and invite. The wait list will remain closed and we will not be accepting race day registrations.
This event has sold out on or around Thanksgiving for race years 2018-2022. 2023 and 2024 are the only two years where we have increased event capacity by another 50 runners to over our 200 capacity around the first week of November. In both of those years, we sold out the 250 before Thanksgiving. With registration opening each year on October 1st, we cannot stress enough how imperative it is to register for this event PRIOR TO HALLOWEEN to guarantee yourself a spot. We are not guaranteed to increase capacity to 250 in future years.
Description
The Human Potential Running Series Presents:
The Sawmill Trail Runs @ Staunton State Park
The Sawmill Trail Runs; first started as a “Fat Ass” event at White Ranch Open Space in Golden, CO in December 2013. We incorporated it into an official trail race starting in December 2017. In 2021, this event was moved to its new home at Staunton State Park in Pine, CO featuring 50k, 16-Mile, and 8-Mile distance options.
Staunton State Park is a gem within Colorado’s State Park system. From high grassy meadows at 8,100 feet to soaring granite cliffs over 10,000 feet, Staunton State Park’s varied geology, soils, water features, and climate support rare and unexpected plant communities and a rich diversity of wildlife and provide a myriad of outdoor recreation opportunities. The park is located approximately 40 miles southwest of downtown Denver, north of US Highway 285 and about six miles west of Conifer in Pine, CO.
Special Event Notes: Traction devices such as micro-spikes are welcome should conditions permit. Snowshoes will also be permitted in the event of snow depths exceeding 6″. No other flotation devices will be approved. In the event of deep snow and treacherous conditions on the 50k’s first loop, the loop will be closed and we’ll ask 50k runners to endure the 16-Mile course, twice consecutively.
