Hello Steamboat Springs Track and Field community. We are so excited to host our Youth Track and Field camp again this summer, in our newly remodeled Gardner Track & Field Stadium. We missed all the young athletes last summer, with the stadium under construction. This year, we have extended camp hours for both the Youth and Middle School age groups, to help accommodate working parents and athlete drop off and pick up. With the longer camp hours, we will have a 4 day format. A fun Track & Field meet will be held Thursday, June 13th, so that friends and family members can watch the athletes shine.
This camp will introduce kids to Track and Field events. Kids can run, jump, & throw....while having an action packed week of pure fun and expert coaching. We will work on team relays, starting blocks (even for the littles), high jump, hurdles, long jump, and a modified throws event. Our amazing SSHS Track and Field/Cross Country athletes and coaches will help to coach and mentor the young athletes at camp. The camp will consist of two groups. K-5th grade will be broken into appropriate age based groups, to maximize their fun and learning. The middle school group will be incoming 6-9th graders. This group will work on some more specific techniques for events, but in a fun environment. Each day the athletes will get to watch the high school athletes provide demonstrations of their own events, such as Pole Vault, High Jump, Shot Put, Hurdles and more.
For athletes who pre-register by Friday, June 7th, we will offer a camp t-shirt. Athletes will also receive awards during the Thursday meet and snacks and drinks during camp. There are some camp scholarships available, if finances would prevent a young athlete from attending.
As part of race registration, we are accepting donations for the Sancy Shaw Scholarship, which was founded in memory of Sancy Shaw, a beloved teacher, athlete, and community member. They scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior from SSHS, who embodies what it is like to 'Live like Sancy.' All donations are voluntary but greatly appreciated. You may visit the YVCF page to learn more or if you prefer to donate directly to the scholarship fund there. https://yvcf.org/live-like-sancy-scholarship/
Please contact Lisa Renee Tumminello at firstname.lastname@example.org or 720-339-6924, with any questions. We are over the top excited for this very special week. Our SSHS team feels so privileged to have the opportunities that we do to train, learn and compete. And we are want to give back to our community, who have faithfully supported us!
