La Sportiva Vail Half Marathon

Race Information

The race will begin at the Golden Peak Children's Center in Vail at 8 a.m. and finish at Eagle's Nest. On-site registration will start at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 20th.

The Eagle Bahn Gondola in Lionshead, which accesses Eagle's Nest, is open for spectators to ride to the top for FREE from 8:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. Failure to load the gondola by 8:30am will make it so you will not be able to access Eagle's Nest without paying a daily scenic ride ticket for $28. Dogs or other pets are not permitted to load the Gondola. Post-race, the gondola will be free for racers & spectators to download to Lionshead Village.

Course Description

The Vail Half Marathon course is as true a Half Marathon as it gets. With 13.0 miles of mountain trail running, the race starts at the Golden Peak base area on a dirt service road before ascending Windisch Way. Windisch is a steep double-track climb up to Gitalong Rd. before turning left onto Mill Creek Rd. Runners follow Mill Creek Rd. for 1 mile before turning right onto South 6, a single-track that climbs another ¾ miles through tall trees to the Village Trail, a dirt double-track that takes runners 2.5 miles to MidVail. Here, runners access Upper Fireweed, cross Village Trail to Upper Lucy’s Loop, & return to MidVail. Back at MidVail, runners climb the MidVail Escape, a single-track with plenty of elevation gain for the next 2.5 miles. At the top, runners access the Grand Traverse for the final 4 miles of trail running. The Grand Traverse is a rolling downhill descent, strecthing through Vail’s famous back bowls alongside amazing fields of flowers with beautiful views of mountain ranges back to the finish line at Eagle's Nest near the top of the Eagle Bahn gondola.

Parking

Please park in the Vail Village parking structure or at the Lionshead Parking structure. There is no parking available at the Golden Peak Children's Center.
