For more than 32 years, the SWIM Across the Sound has taken place and challenged swimmers to swim 15.5 miles from Port Jefferson to Captain’s Cove in Bridgeport. Millions of dollars have been raised that have benefited local cancer patients and their families. This year, due to COVID-19, we cannot hold large gatherings and events like the SWIM in our traditional format. This has challenged us with finding new ways to raise money, in the safest way possible. Our community has also been confronted with finding new ways to stay healthy, while staying home. Let’s meet these challenges by doing something healthy and positive for ourselves while supporting individuals in their personal fight against cancer. Join us, virtually, in the 2020 Swim – Bike – Run – Ride – Kayak – Move Across the Sound!
In this virtual race, you can complete the full 15.5 mile challenge, the distance of our live event each year across Long Island Sound between Danford's Marina and Captain’s Cove Seaport, in one day or over several days. You can register to swim, run, walk, ride, or kayak, really any movement activity … the choice is yours. You can also complete your challenge as a duathlon or triathlon. To help raise additional money for patients battling cancer, you can also create your own fundraising page and enlist friends and family to support your race as an individual or build a team and work together toward a mutual goal. All contributions will go to the SWIM Across the Sound cancer support fund.
