For more than 33 years, the SWIM Across the Sound has taken place and challenged swimmers to swim 15.5 miles from Port Jefferson to Captain’s Cove in Bridgeport. Millions of dollars have been raised that have benefited local cancer patients and their families. We are holding the Swim Marathon as a hybrid event this year. Our hope is to have a group of swimmers take to the Long Island Sound as part of the live event on August 7, 2021 and also continue to offer the virtual challenge for anyone to participate from the location of their choice completing the challenge in one or more of their favorite movement activites. Last year's virtual challenge was a huge success raising more than $45,000 with over 250 participants. Let's keep the good vibes going and meet the challenge of supporting individuals in their personal fight against cancer. Join us, virtually, by registering today to Swim – Bike – Run – Ride – Kayak – Move Across the Sound!
It's simple ... commit to any type of exercise for 15.5 miles and complete that distance in one day or over several days. You also have the option to create a team and work together to complete the challenge or go solo. To help raise additional money for patients battling cancer, you can also create your own fundraising page and enlist friends and family to donate through your page. All contributions will go to the SWIM Across the Sound cancer support fund.
All swimmers interested in participating in the live Swim Marathon on August 7th, will need to register at www.swimacrossthesound.org

St. Vincent’s Medical Center's Swim Across the Sound has been a safety net for many cancer patients who have nowhere else to turn.
Very often a diagnosis of cancer can be financially devastating. It may cause loss of work, leaving patients and families hard pressed to find the means to afford necessities like food, utilities, rent or mortgage. Also, many patients are underinsured and have difficulty affording much needed medicines, a wig, a prosthesis, or early-detection screening. In all these instances, St. Vincent’s is there to offer financial assistance.
Your support of Swim Across the Sound also enables us to offer 44 vital cancer prevention, education, screening, survivorship and support programs and services. Most programs are free and some are provided at low or no cost for those who are uninsured and underinsured.
On behalf of the thousands of lives you’ve touched, thank you for your kind support.
