Description
Groundwork Bridgeport is a nonprofit organization working out of Bridgeport, CT with the mission to "bring about the sustained regeneration, improvement, and management of the physical environment, by empowering people, businesses, and organizations to promote environmental, economic, and social well-being". To accomplish these goals, we are known for our year-round youth programming, tree stewardship, community placemaking events, and various volunteer activities as a means of improving the quality of life for the city of Bridgeport. We are hosting this 5k as a means to further build community, encourage outdoor activity, and raise funds to support our programming and expand our impact.
We hope to bring the community together through a morning of active fun in one of Bridgeport's most beautiful and historic public spaces. Originally designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and developed by P.T. Barnum, Seaside Park is a true gem and one of Bridgeport and Connecticut's greatest treasures.
For this race, we are offering three events designed to welcome participants of all ages and abilities!
Our accurately measured 5K (3.1mi) Route will leave from the monumental Perry Memorial Arch. The course provides a scenic tour along the coast on very flat and accessible roads and sidewalks that you can walk or run. Our course will be well marked with signs, cones, mile splits & volunteers. It has been designed to keep you safe and free from traffic. ONLY 5k finishers are eligible for awards after the event.
Our One Mile Route is a wonderful alternative for those not wanting to take on the 5k distance. Families, youngsters, adults, strollers...enjoy a great one mile loop within Seaside Park. Finishers at this untimed distance are not eligible for awards.
Our FREE Kids Fun Run is for 9 years and under ONLY. Parents/guardians can accompany their little tykes if needed.
Once you finish you can enjoy snacks, refreshments, and community. We will continue the fun on the lawn in hopes that this event will bring people together, promote connections and give everyone a reason to celebrate. Running and walking can often feel like an individual sport, but not when you’re at events with Groundwork Bridgeport!
