Presenting the 20th Annual Somers Great Escape 5k Race! This is a true "destination" race. Come enjoy USATF Certified Courses, that wind you through the bucolic scenery of Somers, CT. Immediately after the race, take in the parade, which officially opens the historic 4-Town Fair. Then, head to the Fair for some awesome food, rides, and a "Free Beverage for a Race Bib" at the beer garden, hosted by the Somers Rotary! Bring the family and enjoy the day in Somers! Bib pickup and race day registration open by 7:00AM. The 5k starts promptly at 8:00AM. 

There is plenty of parking on the Somers Public School Campus. Runners will be professionally "chip" timed.

Race Day Information

Thanks for supporting the 2019 Somers Great Escape! In our effort to provide you with the best race day experience possible, here are some important details for the day. The more you know, the better you are able to prepare yourself. Here’s the scoop…

Important Race Info:
Here is the schedule of the day:
7:00 A.M.           Registration tables open
8:00 A.M.           5k Run Start
9:15 A.M.            Awards Ceremony
10:00 A.M.        Four Town Fair Parade begins

At 10 & 5-minutes prior, the DJ will make an announcement… letting everyone know how much time is left before the official start of the race. The race will start on time. It is the runner’s responsibility to make sure that they are at starting line on time.

Bib Pickup: If you signed up online… we’ll have a bib waiting for you on race day. On race day, come to the tents in the middle school driveway. That’s where we will give it to you.

Bib Wear: Must be worn in the front of your shirt, in clear view of the finish line cameras. 

Timing Chip Wear: Please follow these directions! If you don't put the chip on correctly, the computer may not see you! The race will be professionally timed, using a Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system. When you are issued your bib, there will be one digital tag safety pinned to it. Using the grommet on the chip, you will lace to the chip to the OUTSIDE of your RIGHT shoe. Do not tuck the tag into your laces! Let it flap freely. When you cross the finish line, the chip will identify you to the computer's antenna and mark your finish time & place. 

Signing Up On Race Day: The race day entry fee is $25. On race day, come to the tents in the middle school driveway. That’s where you can sign up.

The Course: The 5k course will be closed to traffic. Click to see the course map:  5k   

Hydration Stations: We will have volunteers handing out water to the runners at two hydration stations. The first, will be at the turn at the end of Field Road. The second, will be after the finish line.

Spectators: We love spectators! They bring enormous life to every race. If you plan on watching the race, the best viewing point will be on Vision Blvd, near the start and finish. This way you see the field take off… and you can cheer for your runner as they approach the finish.

Race Timing: After the race, when we post your results, your finish time will be based on your “Gun Time” - meaning, your race clock begins as soon as the starter sounds the horn. Therefore, if you are towards the back of the crowd at the starting line, at the Great Escape, it may take you 10-20 seconds to actually cross the starting line.

Results: After you cross the finish line, grab your smart phone and go to the results website: If you do not have a smartphone, we will have a kiosk at the timers table where you can view your finish time and placing. Please check your results prior to the awards ceremony! If you feel that you have found an error, just grab one of the race directors or race timing company representatives and let them know. If there is an error, we should be able to correct it… but once the awards are given out, it’s too late… so again, check your results as soon as you catch your breath.

Parking: Will be available at the Somers Library, as well as at the Elementary, Middle, and High School. All are located on Vision Blvd which is where the race begins and ends.

Headphones: We don’t mind you wearing earbuds during the race. However, USATF rules will apply. We do ask that you please make sure that you can hear the race marshal’s directions.

Footwear: The entire course will be on paved roads. Whatever you wear when you run on asphalt, will be perfect.

Jogging Strollers: Are allowed. We just ask that anyone with a stroller begin at the rear of the runner field at the start. This way, no one’s progress is impeded.

Pets: Are not allowed in the race.

Refunds: Once we are within 15-days of the race, no refunds can be considered.
