The Weston Kiwanis Club welcomes you To the Reservoir Run Half Marathon, 5K, and Kids Fun Run. Our events, now in their sixth year hosted by the Kiwanis Club, have earned a solid reputation for their organization, give aways, attention to details and friendliness. As for the courses- we thank Mother Nature for them!
All events start and finish at one of the USA's Blue Ribbon Schools- Weston High. Many volunteers will be on hand to guide you thru your day and running adventures. Both events are bib-chip timed by Startline Race Services. The 5K starts promptly at 8:30am followed by the classic Half Marathon distance at 8:40am (If you believe your half marathon journey will take over three hours we can arrange for an early start.) Our half marathon course will be closing in three hours. Please email our Race Director Marty Schaivone for early start details - email@example.com
Although roads are not closed both courses are well maintained and protected by the Weston Police and many volunteers. The 5K course has some rolling hills and one water stop. It's a simple loop course on quiet roads and all miles are marked. Course map link: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6945597
The challenging Half Marathon course has numerous water stops, great directional signage, and all miles are marked. There's terrific Autumn scenery to keep you relaxed and 'occupied'! In the first half of the course you'll travel on rolling hills along the border of the Saugatuck Reservoir. After running past the Reservoir dam you'll fly downhill for over a half mile along the Saugatuck River and the area known as 'Devils Den'. Next you'll enjoy a long stretch of flat road, still along the river. You'll pass some of the stately homes historic Weston is known for. The last two miles will test your endurance as you work your way back up to Weston High where you'll receive your well earned finishers medal.
With CT DOT road construction continuing on Rte 57 our course map will be available after new measuring rides can take place. It will be very similar to the original course we used in our first two years.
Once you have finished your race you'll go back to the cafeteria and be treated to a terrific variety of foods (many of them homemade by the Kiwanians) and fluids. There will be entertainment while you eat, relax, rehydrate and get ready for the awards and raffle. Don't leave - you must be present to win great gifts.
Awards will be presented asap after the 5K finish and then later, after the majority of the Half finishers are in. To be fair we do need to wait so that all age groups are represented. Overall male and female champions in both races receive awards & are removed from their age groups. Only the 5K has age divisions 9 & under, and 10-13. BOTH 5K & Half Marathon events then have age groups 14-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+
There is ample parking and a warm gym for late registration and pre-reg pickup starting at 7 am.
Proceeds from the Reservoir Run Half Marathon will benefit the Connecticut Food Bank Kids’ BackPack Program that provides weekend meals to more than 3,300 children who are at risk of hunger when not in school.
The 5K proceeds are donated to the Weston Boosters Club to support school athletics.
Our event has a great reputation with plenty of give always, drifit shirts, a variety of post race food, & prizes. Register early to save money and guarantee shirt sizing & swag.
