Dr. Joe Santos
Dr. Joseph “Joe” Coelho Santos Jr., age 58, went home to be with the Lord on September 1, 2018. He is lovingly remembered for his unwavering faith, deep compassion for others, dedication to educating youth, and lifelong commitment to his family, friends, and community.
Born and raised in Porterville, California, Joe met the love of his life, Pamela, as childhood neighbors. Following high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years. Upon returning home, he married Pamela on September 5, 1981, beginning a beautiful life together built on love, faith, and family.
Dr. Santos devoted his life to education and student success. He earned his Teaching Credential from California State University, Fresno; a Master’s in Curriculum and Teaching; and a Master’s in Administrative Services from Fresno Pacific University. He later achieved his Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of the Pacific—his greatest academic accomplishment.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Santos served as Vice Principal at Monte Vista and Olive Street Schools, and as Principal at Monte Vista, Westfield, and Sequoia Middle School. As the founding principal of Sequoia Middle School, he helped establish it as a NASA Explorer School. He also served as ACSA Regional President for Tulare County and was honored twice as Administrator of the Year.
Joe’s passion was helping every student discover their potential and succeed in life. His impact continues to be felt through the many lives he touched.
A man of strong Christian faith, Dr. Santos dedicated himself to youth ministry, coordinating and teaching the confirmation program at St. Aloysius Church in Tulare and previously at St. Anne’s Church in Porterville.
Above all, Joe cherished time with his family. He enjoyed beach trips, fishing, attending baseball games, and creating lasting memories with those he loved. He was an avid reader and lifelong learner who always sought to grow in knowledge and faith.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Pamela Santos of Porterville; his children, Jenna Studinger (Trever) of Visalia, Jared Santos (Amandi) of Visalia, and Jessica Krigbaum (Sean) of Porterville; and his grandchildren, Noah and Audrey Studinger, Matix Skiles, Beckam Santos, and Lexi and Zayde Krigbaum. He is also survived by his sisters, Catherine Casares and Patricia Santos, along with many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
Dr. Santos’ legacy lives on through the countless students he inspired, the community he served, and the family he loved deeply.
