"Boston Location", Michigan

With a post office dating back to 1851, Boston, Michigan has certainly been established in the Copper Country for quite some time. But why Boston? Where does the name come from? Well, we did some digging and found that answer for you! Over a century ago when the "Copper Country" got it's nickname due to the heavy presence of copper mining in the area, the money to spark the industry had to come from somewhere, right? That's right...it came from Boston Massachusetts! The first president of the Calumet and Hecla Mining Company was Quincy Adams Shaw - a Boston Brahmin himself! During this time in the 1890's, Calumet was referred to as "Boston Town" and present day "Boston, MI" was a satellite city known as Boston Location.
So why did we decide to host a race that runs through "Boston Location?" Well, considering the name originates from the Brahmins of Boston, Massachusetts we decided that we would do a spin-off of the world renowned Boston Marathon! The Boston Marathon is one of six "Abbott World Marathon Majors" and is deemed by many to be the most prestigious and unique marathon in the world.
