First, if you are on this page, we understand that you are in the difficult position of having to cancel or postpone your race. We are truly sorry that you have been put in this difficult position - we are all in this together. For the races that have already had to make this difficult decision, these are some of the options that have been offered: 

VIRTUAL RACE: 

  • Going Virtual: Change your race to a virtual race OR Setup a Virtual EVENT that registrants can transfer into
  • How will registrants receive their gear? Are you still planning to hold a packet pickup or will you be mailing out packets?
  • This will be similar to having the race, it's just that participants will complete the run portion of the event at a time and place that is convenient for them

POSTPONEMENT: 

  • Date Change: Move the event to a date later in the year
  • Make sure that you have city approval before the new date is announced to registrants
  • Confirm your refunding plan - if people are unable to attend the new date, make it clear to registrants that they will receive a refund and how they can obtain that refund from your organization. 

RACE TRANSFERS:

  • Turn on Race to Race Transfers: if you have multiple races on RunSignup, this will allow your customers to transfer their registration fee to another one of the races on your calendar

DEFERRALS: 

  • Offer a Lenient Deferral Policy - offer a free deferral to next year's race
  • Make it clear that the participant's registration fee and registration spot will be safe for the following year

DONATION OPTION: 

  • Nonprofits - if you are nonprofit organization, give registrants the option to have their registration fee donated to the event. Let customers know that they will receive an official tax receipt for the registration fee that has been converted to a donation
  • Keep in mind that you will have customers that don't wish to utilize this option, so have a refund plan in place for those customers
