Race Ambassador
This year, the Rady Children’s Hospital Auxiliary Coronado Unit is proud to designate funds raised through the Coronado Turkey Trot to the Department of Endocrinology at Rady Children’s Hospital, supporting children and families living with Type 1 Diabetes.
Type 1 Diabetes can be diagnosed at any age, and every child’s journey looks a little different. From learning how to manage blood sugar during the school day to navigating sports, activities, friendships and the growing independence of the teenage years, children with Type 1 Diabetes and their families learn to manage this condition through every stage of childhood.
This year, we are honored to introduce a very special group of Turkey Trot Ambassadors, ranging from elementary school students to high school students.
Together, they represent different ages, experiences and stages of life with Type 1 Diabetes—and remind us exactly who we are running for this Thanksgiving.

Supporting Pediatric Endocrinology & Diabetes Care
The Division of Endocrinology/Diabetes at Rady Children’s Hospital provides advanced, comprehensive care for children and adolescents with endocrine disorders, diabetes mellitus, and lipid disorders.
The division is also a leader in pediatric diabetes research, dedicated to discovering new therapies for patients and, ultimately, a cure. Comprehensive care for young patients is provided by pediatric endocrinology specialists at Rady Children’s.
Understanding Type 1 Diabetes
Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. Because the body can no longer produce enough insulin, treatment for children with Type 1 Diabetes relies on replacing that insulin.
Insulin is currently administered through multiple daily injections or an insulin pump, along with ongoing monitoring and specialized medical care. For children and their families, access to expert pediatric care and continued research plays an important role in managing Type 1 Diabetes.
Join Us in Supporting Rady Children’s Hospital
When you participate in the Coronado Turkey Trot this Thanksgiving, you’re doing more than starting your holiday with a walk or run, you’re helping support the children and families who rely on Rady Children’s Hospital.
Net proceeds from this year’s event will benefit the Division of Endocrinology/Diabetes and its work providing comprehensive pediatric care and advancing research for Type 1 Diabetes.
