Description
“I’m A Survivor” is a 30-day digital breast cancer awareness campaign spearheaded by The Black Girl Health Foundation, Inc's - College Ambassador Program to increase knowledge of breast cancer and best practices regarding awareness and screening amongst the digital generation. The campaign includes a digital campaign and a virtual 5k Survivors Run/Walk.
What is a Virtual 5k?
BGHF's Survivor 5k Walk was created to encourage black women to share a 5k walk with a breast cancer survivor. The objective is to encourage the BGH Foundation audience to pair up with a breast cancer survivor for a 5k Walk. During the walk we want the survivors to share their stories with their partners. Tell them about things that you wish you would have known or heard before your own diagnosis. How did you know you needed to go to the doctor? What did your lump(s) feel like? How old were you when you got your diagnosis and at what stage?
Here is how you can participate:
- Get a Breast Cancer Survivor Walk Partner and register. If you are a Survivor OR support the mission of breast cancer awareness among women of color you can also participate by registering
- Once you register, walk anytime between Oct 1 and Oct 31st with Breast Cancer Survivor.
- While on your walk if you're walking with a survivor, make sure they share their story of surviving breast cancer. We hope these stories will become an inspiration for other women to take control of their health.
- Lastly, take a picture and post it on the I'm Survivor Facebook Event Page - On Facebook Search: I'm A Survivor Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign & Virtual 5k
