Description
Now in its 5th year, the NSDAR Junior Membership 5k is one of the most important fundraising opportunities for the Helen Pouch Memorial Fund. Grab your chapter members, family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, pets (new this year!), etc. and make sure to register for this year's event! Regardless of if you are able to complete the virtual race, your registration and generous donations ensure the National Junior Membership Committee is able to execute projects including support of DAR Schools, the National Junior Committee Project, and the Classroom Grants Program. For NSDAR members, all donations made through this race portal will count towards NSDAR giving (including Heritage Club levels, 1890 Annual Giving Circle, etc.).
In addition to being a fundraiser, this event is an excellent way to connect with others while supporting women in American History. In a now famous letter written by Abigail Adams, she urged her husband, John Adams, to “remember the ladies.” Each year of the Wright Administration, the virtual 5k will highlight the unique contributions of women to the American Revolution. This year's race highlights the over fifty women who, in 1774, signed a pledge to cease the use of East India Tea in an event that became known as the Edenton Tea Party. Considered the earliest organized political activity by women in United States history, these daring ladies publicly denounced the unjust imposition of taxes and prosecutions and condemned the Boston Port Act.
To honor the women of the Edenton Tea Party, this year’s race medal will feature a tea pot. The medals have been designed with the three year race theme in mind. When placing this year's fan-shaped medal with last year's medal and next year's medal they will form a circle. **Click here to view an image of the medal.** Note: Medals will only be sent to participants who select "yes" they would like a race medal during their registration. You can either pick up your medal at Continental Congress in June or it will be shipped to you.
If you missed the 2023 race but want to be able to get the medal to complete the three-year set, you can travel back in time to register for the 2023 here. The 2023 race celebrated Polly Cooper of the Oneida Indian Nation.
If you want to show your pride in Junior Membership, you can order a race shirt here. Note: Shirts will ship at the end of the fundraiser.
The virtual NSDAR Junior Membership 5k is easy to complete! You can complete the race on your own time in whatever method you find easiest for you (or not at all!) - we’ve seen walkers, runners, swimmers, bikers and more! However you complete it, make sure you come back here, and navigate to the "Results" tab (on the left) to log your official results. And! Don't forget to share you support of the Remember the Ladies 5k on social media using the hashtags #NSDARjuniormembership5k and #remembertheladies5k!
Still have questions? Check out our FAQs!
We hope you’ll encourage your friends, family, chapter members, coworkers and more to participate with you! You do NOT have to be a member of DAR to participate and this virtual event is open to anyone who would like to support Junior Membership.
Thank you in advance for your participation and we look forward to another successful 5K this year!
