Description
“Suffering for Suffrage” is a virtual race scheduled for November 1, 2020. It is open and free to everyone regardless of age, gender, or ability. There are 10 levels of participation so that everyone can pick a lane and be part of celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the 19th Amendment. The distance categories are 5K, 10K, 15K, ½ marathon, and full marathon and each race has a walking or running option. If you ever wanted to walk or run a 5K or a marathon, now is the time to cross it off the bucket list. Set a goal to challenge yourself, celebrate suffrage, and do something healthy for your emotional and physical well being during these challenging times.
Being a virtual event, you, the participant, can choose your own course whether it be around your block, a nature trail, on a professional track, or even on a treadmill. You also choose your own pace be it walking, jogging, or running. You can safely social distance while still connecting with a community by being part of a national event.
This is a non-partisan event and a unifying race. Participants are encouraged to wear patriotic clothing in red, white, and blue without specific party or candidate messaging. A puffy white star on a medium blue background is encouraged as a non-political symbol to represent the stars used on suffrage imagery and the state stars on the American flag. Each race name honors a suffragist who made a significant contribution towards women getting the right to vote. Bios for the suffragists along with a timeline of the American Suffrage Movement can be found on the SuffragetteCity100.com website. The hashtag #SufferingForSuffrage can be used to find and connect with others on social media.
This race is 100% free and no donations will be accepted.
*If you are physically unable to participate in the race, you may be a Star Ambassador by getting someone to run for you as a proxy. As a Star Ambassador you agree to be a supportive force and personal cheerleader to your proxy partner.
