Description
For the last four years, the Sunset Run for Refugees has been proud to host hundreds of local runners, joggers, walkers, and families from the Washington, DC community in a special event to commemorate World Refugee Day. In light of the social distancing restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, we will again be hosting an all virtual run/walk for our fifth annual Sunset Run for Refugees. Refugee communities need our support now more than ever, and we are eager to come together to empower each other to action in a unique and impactful way.
From June 14th-June 20th, we encourage all of our participants to engage their communities in a virtual run or walk leading up to World Refugee Day and shine their own light wherever they may be. You can choose to complete the 5k over the course of the week leading up to World Refugee Day, or you can do it in one day! Share your achievement! Post pictures or videos of yourself completing the 5k on social media and on RunSignUp when submitting your results, and don’t forget to use our hashtags! #SRR21 #RunForRefugees #SunsetRunForRefugees
Just announced! Screen Runner today with FREE registration
This inspiring film shares the life of Guor Makar, a refugee from South Sudan, who became a member of the first ever refugee Olympic team. Receive a link when you register to watch the film at any time throughout the week of June 14-20! Watch the trailer here.
We are again excited to be offering race swag! Technical race shirts, bibs, and LED candles (new this year!) will be available with each registration in support of refugees leading up to #WorldRefugeeDay on June 20th! Orders placed between May 1-June 20 will receive their shirt, bib, and candle 4-6 weeks after the event concludes. So register today! If you choose not to purchase a shirt, we highly encourage a donation of $10 or $25 to one of our highlighted organizations.
As part of your participation, we ask that you support one or all of our highlighted organizations working to aid refugee populations around the globe: Alight, ECDC, and Save the Children. Your donations will provide aid directly to these organizations, working to protect the most at-risk refugee communities around the globe, especially during this global pandemic.
