Do the Delaware 96 with Michael Wardian!

Join Ultra Marathoner Michael Wardian as he runs the length of Delaware on or around July 4, 2020.  Michael is using this event as part of his training program for his run across the country later this year.  Michael stated that running the length of Delaware would be "epic."

About the Event:

Races2Run, in partnership with IFA Virtual Racing, is inviting you to participate in a 55 day Virtual Walk/Run!  Do the Delaware 96 with Michael Wardian or the Delaware 35 (the width of Delaware).  Michael is looking to help raise funds for those in need.  Those who have no food on the table.  Those who do not have money to pay rent.  

Background

Michael and his family live in Arlington, Va and have family in Rehoboth Beach.  I got to know Michael as race director for the Delaware Marathon which he has won 4 times.  I also see him at our Ten Sister Series in Dewey Beach or at a Seashore Strider event in Rehoboth.  Michael sent me the article below.   With his 96 mile run he hopes to raise  funds for this very worthy cause.  Two other food pantries will also accept funds via this challenge.  The Ministry of Caring in Wilmington and Cape Henlopen Food Basket in Rehoboth Beach

The PTA story

Schools may be closed, but Arlington PTAs have stepped up and supported local families in their school communities through the coronavirus pandemic.At K.W. Barrett Elementary School in the Buckingham neighborhood, the school PTA has gone through two rounds of grocery gift card distribution to families in need. “To date, we have distributed a total of $19,500 worth of grocery gift cards for Harris Teeter, Safeway and Giant,” Melanie Jones and Will Le, representing the Barrett PTA, said in an email. “In the first round (in early April), we distributed or mailed out $8,350 in $50 grocery gift cards (128 distributed; 39 mailed to families). In the second round (in early May), we distributed or mailed out $11,150 in $50 grocery gift cards (203 distributed; 20 mailed to families). ”The PTA has also distributed 275 school supply kits, paid from PTA funds totaling $1982.
The pair said in the email the PTA has received a total of $25,235 in donations and gift card contributions from families and friends.

How can you participate?

• Walk/Run 96 miles in 45 days
• Walk/Run 35 miles in 45 days
• Ride your bike 96 miles in 45 days
• Ride your bike 35 miles in 45 days

Here's how it works:

• Pick your distance and register any time between June 1, 2020 until July 14, 2020
• Join a team or create a new one!  There will be prizes for largest team and the team with highest donations raisedco
• Walk/Run/ or Bike your chosen distance any time between June 1 and July 14th and begin accumulating your miles. 
• For the 96 miles and 35 mile participants, click HERE to enter your finish time. (run walk only post times)
• Take pictures and short videos to commemorate your walk/run, post them on your Facebook page.

Don't want to run?

• Join Wardian's Warriors and sponsor him at $1 per mile.  You will get an autographed picture of him taken during the 96-mile run through Delaware.  The picture comes with a customized, engraved frame.  A unique memento for this special event.
