DARBY DASH CHANGED TO VIRTUAL DUE TO WEATHER

Due to the weather forcasted for Sunday morning, we have decided to change the event to a "virtual" run keeping everyone safe and not on the roads traveling to this event. Cape State Park is traditionally not a great place to host events that are hit with rain & wind due to the open area's and wind that is generated off the water.

10 am...96% rain...66 degrees...0.15" rain...20 mph wind

11 am...99% rain...67 degrees...011" rain...21 mph wind

As you can see the morning will begin with rain and just seems to get worse.

VIRTUAL 5K RULES & OPTIONS

1. RUN OR WALK YOUR 5K BEFORE TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13TH AT MIDNIGHT.
2. VERIFY YOUR PERFORMANCE BY TAKING A FESTIVE PIC OF YOU AND A CLOSE-UP OF YOUR WATCH...HAVE SOME FUN!
3. SEND TO RACE DIRECTOR TIM BY WAY OF EMAIL (TIM@SEASHORESTRIDER.COM) OR TEXT MESSAGE (302.542.4536) BY A DEADLINE OF WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 14TH AT NOON.
4. I WILL SCORE THE RACE BY THURSDAY AT NOON BY GUN TIME AND POST RESULTS ON THE SEASHORE STRIDER WEBSITE.
5. I WILL THEN DELIVER T-SHIRTS & AWARDS BY WAY OF MAILBOXES OR FUTURE EVENTS AND THERE IS ALWAYS AN OPTION TO PICK UP ON MY PORCH WHICH MANY DO.
   YOUR COOL PICS WILL BE POSTED ON THE SEASHORE STRIDER FB SITE.
   NOTE...IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO MOVE TO A FUTURE SS EVENT HELD IN 2026 YOU CAN SEND ME YOUR WISHES AND I WILL SEE WHAT I CAN DO.
   IT IS NEVER AN EASY DECISION TO CHANGE AN EVENT, BUT WHAT I HOPE THAT PARTICIPANTS CAN UNDERSTAND IS THAT THERE ARE ALOT OF PIECES IN THE PUZZLE. THE WEATHER, THE RANGERS, THE WATERSTOP VOLUNTEERS, THE COURSE VOLUNTEERS, THE LEAD BIKERS, THE FLOODING, THE WIND, THE TRAVELING TO & FROM...THERE ARE JUST ALOT TO CONSIDER AND NO ONE WANTS TO BE OUT IN THIS WEATHER. OUR GOAL IS ALWAYS TO KEEP EVERY PIECE OF THE PUZZLE SAFE.

THE RACE WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL WEDNESDAY AT MIDNIGHT...FOLKS CAN STILL SIGN UP AND CAN STILL MAKE DONATIONS WHICH ANY PROCEEDS WILL GO TO HUMANE ANIMAL PARTNERS IN MEMORY OF THE LATE DARBY...AKA FREDMAN'S DOG.

DESCRIPTION  Join the Seashore Striders as we host an event in honor of Darby & owner Fredman.  It is being called the "Faith & Animal Spirit" event where you can show up and support Humane Animal Partners (HAP) and honor your loved one with a 5k walk or run.  Whether your loved one is still with us or just a cherished memory, you can show your "Faith & Animal" Spirit by taking a piece of your loved one and carrying them in your heart by being a better person than you were yesterday.  Join us for this special event!

RACE DATE & TIME:  Sunday October 11, 2026 at 9 am 

RACE REGISTRATION:

  • $30/participant through Sunday, October 4th ending at midnight
  • $35/participant through Saturday, October 10th ending at midnight
  • $40/participant through Sunday, October 11th at race start of 9 am

RACE COURSE:   3.1m; Flat & Fast at Cape Henlopen State Park...Course will start at the north side of the bathhouse parking lot and follow the bike trail through Ft Miles to the rear of the campground and turning around on the trail at the Dune Tower.   Water at Ft Miles.

RACE TIMING:  Seashore Strider Event Production, Inc. will be timing the event using the Chronotrack B Chips.

RACE AMENITIES:  Short sleeved shirts to all participants...post-race awards in the park...a running good time.

AWARDS: Overall & Master Male/Female Champion, as well as the top three finishers in 9 5K age groups: 9U, 10-13, 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+

REFUNDS/DEFERRAL: The Seashore Striders have a "No Refund" policy, however we make every possible attempt to please our client with the following options:  1. Transfer to a future Seashore Strider owned event of equal value before the end of the current year.   2. Donate your entry fee to the charity associated with the event.  3. Transfer/Defer to the following year at the same event.  Thank You for your cooperation & understanding as some situations are beyond the control of the Seashore Striders.
