Why Run the Refuge?
The Run for the Refuge 5K Run/Walk & 1-Mile Fun Run is more than just a race—it's a chance to connect with nature while supporting one of northwest Ohio's most treasured places. Held at beautiful Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge on National Public Lands Day, participants of all ages are invited to enjoy a unique course surrounded by wetlands, wildlife, and the incredible scenery that makes the refuge so special.
Whether you're chasing a personal best, walking with friends and family, or introducing your children to their first fun run, every registration helps support conservation, environmental education, volunteer programs, and the next generation of conservation professionals through the Friends of Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge.
Celebrate National Public Lands Day by getting outside, exploring the refuge, and making a difference for the wildlife and habitats that belong to all of us. With optional race shirts and finisher medals available during registration, it's a memorable way to kick off fall migration season and experience one of Ohio's premier birding and wildlife destinations.
