The cure for cancer just doesn&rsquo;t happen by mistake or chance. It starts when we focus on innovative research, work together and listen to the best experts we have. It is the result of determination, a fighting spirit and the courage to revolutionize our approach. And today, that revolution for the cure starts with our children.
We call it the &ldquo;homerun cure&rdquo; and it is nothing new. It is a strategy that brought us some of the biggest innovations in cancer research &ndash; even cures &ndash; but today it is sadly replaced with incremental advances that move the odds, but offer no cures. We pay billions for cancer research, yet ignore those cancers that many cancer experts believe offer us the greatest chance at a cure for all. One such cancer is Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG), a cancer that typically affects children in one of the most critical areas of the brain. It affects the heart, breathing, speaking and virtually all functions of the human body. Survival is less than 10%. It cannot be currently cured with radiation, chemotherapy or surgery. It requires innovation, even a revolution in cancer care to cure. And it is where we may learn the most about all forms of cancer.
