Running Free Alaska is a volunteer-based non-profit that provides running programs for inmates inside Hiland Mountain Correctional Center. The mission of Running Free Alaska is to make a positive difference in the lives of Alaska’s prison inmates through a structured running program. Wholly funded through grants, private donations and the generosity of local businesses, and designed and supported by volunteer coaches and professional Alaskan athletes (at no cost to or effort by the State of Alaska or the Department of Corrections), inmates in good standing and of all athletic abilities participate in a personalized, ongoing running program. The program reaches over 25% of the eligible inmate population at Hiland and has seen several great successes with inmates who have been released and have continued to follow a healthy lifestyle by participating in community races.  Running Free Alaska is a 501(c)(3) non-profit.  All donations are tax deductible.
