2020 has been a year filled with challenges. From moving into our new emergency shelter in early March to the start of the global pandemic in late March, we have learned that the only constant is change. Since the pandemic, The Firehouse has never, not for one day, closed our doors. In fact, we have provided over 27,591 COVID specific services to 1,641 people. From emergency shelter to permanent housing and every crisis service in between, The Firehouse has been there for Birmingham’s homeless. Not only have we continued to serve the homeless men in our community, we quickly pivoted to meet the needs of homeless women and children and have provided food, clothing, showers, and laundry services to 360 individuals. Due to the love and careful planning of the staff, there have been 0 guests that have tested positive whilst staying at the shelter. Sadly, as the needs of the homeless has increased, our fundraising efforts have been put on the backburner. Our two annual events were cancelled, and we have a massive hole in our operating budget.
All proceeds from this race support Birmingham's homeless population and the emergency shelter many call home!
