SPAN OF ALABAMA (Tuscaloosa)

Who We Are
SPAN is a nonresidential, coeducational program serving troubled youth and their families throughout Alabama using modern educational tools and effective counseling techniques.  We accept a wide range of students from a broad referral base that includes local juvenile court systems, local school systems, and many others.

Our Mission
SPAN earnestly seeks to help troubled youth achieve success and become productive adults through education, counseling, and positive influences within their own communities.

S.P.A.N. of Tuscaloosa County Charitable Trust Fund is a 501c3 organization created exclusively to provide funds for the S.P.A.N. of Tuscaloosa County Incentive Program.  All monies raised from this fundraiser will be used to take students on field trips, to continue to stock our incentive store with drinks and other snacks, provide holiday parties throughout the year, to furnish our recreation room, to maintain the garden, and to provide supplies for the annual graduation activities, as well as other special activities throughout the year.”

Academic Services
SPAN uses cutting-edge educational programs such as New Century Education, APEX, A-Plus, Plato, and many others to help our students achieve their academic goals.  Whether remediation, credit recovery, or GED preparation, SPAN employs certified, highly-qualified teachers in an individualized learning environment to help students at all skill levels.  (Academic programs may only be available in some locations and in partnerships with local school systems.)

Counseling Services
SPAN works with our students to set achievable goals, change negative behaviors, meet basic needs, and put problems in the past.  Whether abuse, bullying, drugs, or self-esteem, SPAN works both in-program and through community resources to make sure students are healthy, motivated, and successful.  (Clinical services may not be available in all locations.)

Employment Services
SPAN teaches a wide range of employment skills to help students who need a job get and keep a job.  Whether application assistance, basic employability skills, career selection, interview preparation, or the first day on the job, SPAN is there to help students become productive members of the workforce.  (Not all students qualify for employment training.)

Transitional Services
SPAN knows that not every child in need will make it to one of our centers.  So we come to you!  Whether academic assessment, group seminars, or general follow-up, SPAN helps you help your students.  (Services vary by location.)
