Donations will benefit Team Avery and the Camp AcheAway to help combat Juvenile Arthritis. Avery is the young daughter of local Southeast participant Chris Perkins and was just recently diagnosed with this awful disorder. Camp AcheAway is a specialty, residential camp designed for children 6-17 years of age with a form of juvenile arthritis.
Hosted annually at our Camp Twin Lakes' partner site, Camp Will-A-Way, in Winder, GA, Camp AcheAway offers campers a week of fishing, boating, archery, arts and crafts, rock wall climbing and many other traditional camp activities - all at a safe and medically accessible facility.
The Arthritis Foundation is able to offer camp at no cost to families as a result of fundraising efforts, corporate sponsorships, private donations, and foundation grant support.
Through a creatively designed, camper-centered program that embraces cabin life, guided and intentional instruction, exposure to new activities, peer support, and fun, we intend to empower our staff and campers to achieve these goals:
• To provide a fun, safe and exciting camping adventure for all participants regardless of their medical needs.
• To recognize and utilize individuals strengths
• To enhance and foster self-worth, self-esteem and self-confidence.
• To promote growth through self-discovery and expression.
• To develop a sense of independence and interdependence.
• To foster memorable friendships.
• To create a nurturing community of peers with juvenile arthritis or related disease.
• To provide the highest quality of medical care that is non-intrusive to camp life.
