Beef Sticks for Backpacks is a Colorado based public 501(c)(3) non-profit that produces and donates beef sticks to backpack programs that feed food insecure children in Colorado on the weekends. 1 in 7 children in Colorado are unsure about where they will get their next meal and on the weekends many of these children do not have access to food when they are away from school on the weekends. Since 2019, Beef Sticks for Backpacks has donated over 2.5 million beef sticks and currently is distributing 20,000 beef sticks across the state of Colorado.
‘Backpack Programs’ are independent non-profit organizations with the mission of putting together bags of shelf-stable food that they can send home with kids who are experiencing weekend food insecurity in their community. Backpack programs are faced with rising food cost and the challenge of finding shelf-stable food that this not only nutritious but also something that kids will eat. We work directly with backpack programs across the state to make sure that they are getting enough beef sticks to put one in each one of their bags of shelf-stable food each week. Not only are our beef sticks nutritious, but kids also love them!
Our beef sticks are produced by Colorado State University students at their USDA facility within the College of Animal Sciences. This strategic partnership allows us to accept in-kind donations from industry partners which drastically lowers our production cost to where we are able to produce and distribute 3 beef sticks for every dollar raised! Help us feed kid in Colorado the protein they deserve by donating today!
