What Do We Do
We provide new running shoes to Moms caring for children with a critical/chronic illness or a special need.
We all know that making our health a priority is the best gift we can give, not only to ourselves, but to those around us. With the right gear – like proper running shoes, tech shirts, running socks, and community – we can help our Heart Strides Moms move forward.
Offer Hope
For many Moms, the arrival of these shoes will come at a time when they are just getting started with a diagnosis (or several), medical bills, medication, new routines, and other overwhelming life stressors that accompany a new diagnosis. These shoes will arrive at their door just when they have completely forgotten what it is to care for themselves, because they are so completely absorbed in caring for someone else. They might use these new shoes to walk around the block or follow the sidewalks of a hospital campus, to gain some perspective and find a few moments just for themselves.
Pave the Way
For some of our Moms, these new shoes will be used to participate in events that are near and dear to their hearts. They will run, walk, advocate, and fundraise for causes that have become a part of their family’s life. The finish lines they cross will empower them and bring them closer to the cures they are fighting for.
A Reminder
Many of our Moms will be coming back to running after taking time off while caring for their child, and these shoes will help them realize they are worthy of lacing up, and it will ease the guilt and financial burden of self-care, allowing them to head out the door with a clear head and a ready spirit. These shoes offer a reminder of who they were, and who they still are.
Wherever they are when they lace up, our Heart Strides moms will know that they are not alone, and that we are with them every step of the way!
