RUN FOR CURT!!
This year Heartland Helping Hands will raise funds to benefit a double amputee, disabled veteran in need of a vehicle that the VA can modify for him to have transportation and regain his independence. Please follow his journey in the Highlands News Sun. All proceeds from this 3K Mall Run will go towards our goal of $20,000 to help Curt get his vehicle with hand controls. He will be at the 3K Mall Run the morning of Springapalooza, pushed in his wheelchair for the race by Cindy Marshall, an editor at the Highlands News Sun!
Honoring A Vietnam Veteran
Chief Warrant Officer, Curt Ruggles of the United States Army served from 1970 to 1972 as a CW2 piolet expert in aviation in the Vietnam war. Curt’s plan after he completes his rehab is to find a place to live on his own that is suitable for his disabilities, but he will also need a vehicle equipped with hand controls due to his loss of legs. The 3K run for the Avon Park Springapalooza 2024 will be in honor of Curt and helping him to obtain these goals and regain his independence. My newspaper editor Cindy Marshall will be pushing Curt in a wheelchair for the Mall Run. Curt said his dream would be to return to Springapalooza in 2025 to join the 3K himself in honor of all of those who helped him. We are all hopeful that dream comes true as we follow his journey until then.
