Transport for Troops is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to provide funding and strategic assistance to qualifying military service members to cover out-of-pocket moving expenses. We aim to alleviate some of the financial strain on military members by distributing funds directly to the service provider, or in-kind services, on the service member’s behalf. We also leverage our experience and relationships in the industry to provide free shipping and support. Transport for Troops goal for 2023 is to provide up to $2,500 per service member application and to provide 1,000 vehicle shipments.
The average military family moves approximately every 2.5 years and spends about $5,000 on out-of-pocket unreimbursed costs. One of those unreimbursed costs is to transport a secondary vehicle, which is on average around $1,500. Entitlements while moving generally only covers one vehicle, so the cost to drive, ship, tow, or store another vehicle is solely up to the family and is rarely reimbursable. These financial strains and losses have a significant impact on the service members and their families, causing stress, familial discord, and mental health strains. These factors can all affect mission readiness and ability of the service member to safely and effectively complete their assignment.
