Did you know that Sickle Cell Disease is a devastating and painful condition that affects both children and adults? Sickle Cell trait (AS) is an inherited condition in which both hemoglobin A and S are produced in the red blood cells, always more A than S. Sickle cell trait is not a type of sickle cell disease. Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects red blood cells. People with sickle cell trait are generally healthy. Sickle cell trait or the carrier state for sickle cell anemia occurs in high frequency among people of African-American and/or Hispanic descent, but it can also occur in people of all ethnicities.

The 1st Annual 5k Walk/Run for Sickle Cell directly benefits education, research, and testing for Sickle Cell that affects many adults and children in our local communities.
