The proceeds from this race are used to support 4-H activities in Polk County for the coming year. Activities sponsored in the past have included: helping youth attend 4-H Camp, attend the state summer conference, and travel on the Intermediate Trip. Funds have also provided post-secondary scholarships to deserving high school graduates and club grants for 4-H Clubs to complete service projects.
This 5K race is run in memory of Joy Niklasen, a former County Youth Coordinator for Polk County 4-H. Joy was an advocate for healthy living and a beloved leader who inspired Polk County 4-H youth through her energy and enthusiasm to reach their full potential. Tragically, Joy lost her life in a car accident in September of 2014
