Description

In 2012 Beti Arsovska and Bernard Pesjak founded the Ajvar 5k, an annual signature charitable project under the auspice of the United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD). The Ajvar 5K’s purpose is strictly aiding the children by coming together for a charitable cause. These races are a great way to help children in need, unite communities, foster the community spirit and to safeguard the human rights of Macedonians. The Ajvar 5k has previously raised money for children with cerebral palsy and sponsored “11th October,” an orphanage in Macedonia. This year the Ajvar 5k will fundraise for children with Down Syndrome and autism. The fundraisers have been held continuously since its launch in 2012 and have taken place all around the world including the US, Canada and Australia.

UMD is a registered 501(c) (3) non-profit and leading global non-governmental organization that addresses the needs and interests of Macedonians throughout the world. UMD is headquartered in Washington, D.C. and promotes the interests and needs of Macedonians and Macedonian communities throughout the U.S., Australia, Canada, and Europe, which further unite our global community. UMD has assisted many different causes throughout Macedonia by donating to senior citizen homes, orphanages, humanitarian relief efforts following devastating floods, and provided medical examinations to the elderly. Together the Ajvar 5k and UMD help promote and protect the beautiful Macedonian heritage, culture and people.
