On February 11, 1999, Patrolman Timothy Hecht suffered a fatal heart attack during a training session for the Porter County Sheriff’s Department Emergency Response Team. He and other officers were testing to be placed on the new assignment. Patrolman Hecht had served with the Porter County Sheriff's Department for eight years.
The Timothy Hecht Scholarship Fund is solely funded by proceeds from the Foot Pursuit 5k, which is given every year to several students pursuing a degree in the field of Law Enforcement.
