Description
This is a family friendly hike to support Zeke Bodenheimer. Zeke is the 3 year old son of Joshua and Ruth Bodenheimer. Zeke suffers from a rare fatal genetic disease, Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). DMD is the most common fatal genetic disease diagnosed in childhood. Zeke’s body does not produce dystrophin. Dystrophin is necessary to repair and maintain muscle function. Since Zeke’s body does not produce any dystrophin, his muscles are rapidly breaking down and Zeke is going to lose the ability to do many things normal boys can do, like walking and climbing stairs. Most boys with DMD are wheelchair bound by age 12. Zeke’s diagnosis came as a shock to the Bodenheimers. DMD has created a huge financial burden for Zeke's family.
